Oil pushes the car up; gravity brings it back down. Slow, but it puts no load on the roof, which is why it is often the only lift a finished building can accept.

Roped hydraulic

The ram connects to the car through a rope and sheave arrangement instead of pushing it directly, roughly doubling the travel a given cylinder stroke can reach.

Hydraulic lift specialists

Retrofits into finished buildings are where hydraulic expertise actually gets tested.

Anyone can fit a lift into a building designed for one. Hydraulic work earns its keep in buildings that were not — occupied structures, uncertain water tables, roofs that were never meant to carry a machine room. The team has taken on that kind of survey repeatedly across Delhi NCR, choosing between direct-acting, telescopic and roped arrangements based on what the pit and structure actually allow, not what is easiest to quote. That is the judgement building owners are really paying for when they call us for a hydraulic lift.

Choosing it

When hydraulic is the right answer, and when it is not.

Hydraulic lifts are frequently specified for the wrong reason — low equipment cost — and then disappoint on speed and running cost. These are the honest tests.

Is the travel under 18 metres?

Above that, the ram becomes impractical and a traction or MRL lift is both faster and cheaper to run. This is the first question, and it is often decisive.

Can the roof take a lift load?

If the building is finished, or the roof was never designed for it, hydraulic removes the problem entirely by loading the pit instead.

How many trips per hour?

Oil heats up as the pump works. Above roughly 45 starts per hour the tank needs cooling, and past that the drive type should be reconsidered.

Is the load unusually heavy?

For heavy loads at low rise — car lifts, freight platforms — hydraulic is comfortably the strongest option available.

Where can the power unit sit?

It needs a small ventilated room within about 10 m of the shaft. Not overhead, which is the flexibility people are usually buying.

What is the water table like?

A direct-acting ram needs a bored well below the pit. Where groundwater is high, specify a telescopic cylinder instead.

Where hydraulic lifts are the right choice.

  • Retrofits into finished buildings. No roof load and no machine room above, so the existing structure is left alone.
  • Low-rise commercial buildings. Two to six floors where speed is not the deciding factor.
  • Heavy goods at low rise. The strongest option for high load and short travel — see goods lifts.
  • Car and vehicle lifts. Very heavy loads over two or three levels, covered under car elevators.
  • Homes and villas. The usual drive behind home elevators, for the same structural reasons.

Before you ask for a quotation

What is the hydraulic elevator price in India?

Hydraulic elevator price is generally the lowest of the common drive types for equipment cost, which is why it is the default recommendation for retrofits and low-rise work. The figure moves with rated load, cylinder arrangement (direct-acting versus telescopic) and travel height. Running cost is higher than traction over the life of the lift, which is worth weighing against the lower upfront price.

How high can a hydraulic lift go?

Practically, about 18 m or six floors. Beyond that the ram becomes unwieldy and the running cost is hard to justify against a traction or MRL lift.

Why is a hydraulic lift slower?

Speed is limited by pump flow rate going up, and by controlled oil release coming down. Typical speeds are 0.15 to 0.63 m/s against 1 m/s or more for traction.

Do hydraulic lifts leak oil?

Seals wear and eventually weep, which is why seal condition is a standard AMC check. A well-maintained unit should not drip, and a unit that does needs attention rather than topping up.

What happens in a power cut?

The car descends to the nearest landing on its own weight through a manual or battery-operated lowering valve, and the doors open. No generator is needed.

Is it cheaper than a traction lift?

The equipment usually is. The running cost is not — a hydraulic lift draws significant power on every up trip, where a counterweighted traction lift only moves the difference.
