A vehicle lift replaces a ramp. On a tight plot that is often the difference between two levels of parking and none at all — a ramp eats floor area that a lift simply does not.

Arrangements

Four ways to move a vehicle between levels.

Direct hydraulic

Planning it

What decides whether a car lift works on a site.

Car lifts are a circulation decision before they are an equipment decision. Get the queueing wrong and the lift becomes the bottleneck at the gate.

Size for the largest vehicle, not the average

Platform length and width, plus mirror and door clearance. An SUV that cannot open its door on the platform makes the lift unusable.

Work out the cycle time

Drive on, travel, drive off. One car lift typically handles a vehicle every 90 to 150 seconds — that is the real throughput figure.

Check the queue space at street level

If cars queue on the road while waiting, the lift has failed as circulation regardless of how well it works.

Decide whether a turntable is needed

If the driver would otherwise reverse into a confined basement, a turntable is usually the right answer.

Confirm the pit and drainage

A car lift pit collects water off wet vehicles. Drainage and a sump pump are specified, not added later.

Plan ventilation and fire strategy

Vehicles run in an enclosed shaft. Ventilation and the fire strategy are agreed with the consultant before the shaft is built.

  • Basement parking on tight plots. Where a ramp would consume more floor area than the parking it serves.
  • Car showrooms. Moving display vehicles between retail floors, often with a glazed shaft as a feature.
  • Premium residential buildings. Private parking access, sometimes direct to the apartment level.
  • Service workshops. Vehicle movement between service bays on stacked floors.

Before you ask for a quotation

What is the car parking lift price in India, and what capacity do I need?

Car parking lift price is set mainly by rated load, platform size and whether a turntable is fitted, in that order. Capacity should be planned for the largest vehicle expected — an SUV, not the current fleet of hatchbacks — since platform size is the dimension nobody can change once the shaft is built. We quote against the vehicle mix and levels served, not a flat per-lift rate.

How many cars can one lift handle per hour?

Roughly 25 to 40, depending on travel height and how quickly drivers manoeuvre. If peak arrival exceeds that, plan two lifts or retain a ramp.

Does the driver stay in the vehicle?

It depends on the design. Where the driver rides with the vehicle, the lift must be built and certified for passengers as well as load. We confirm this at survey.

Is a turntable worth the cost?

On tight basements, usually yes. It lets drivers enter and exit nose-first, which removes reversing in a confined space and speeds up the cycle.

What platform size should we plan for?

At least 2600 × 5500 mm for general use. Confirm against the largest vehicle expected, including door swing clearance on at least one side.

What happens during a power failure?

The platform can be lowered on a manual or battery-operated valve. For occupied-vehicle designs, emergency communication is mandatory.
